Original Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874) Japanese Woodblock Print
Cherry Blossoms at Night, 1865

Comments - Handsome scene of Prince Genji enjoying a spring evening on the verandah. He kneels on a cushion with a cup of sake in his hand, smiling as he welcomes the elegantly dressed courtesan at right. She wears a striking outer robe patterned with a hawk or falcon in flight above crashing waves. Dishes of food are set out on a round lacquer tray in the center of the room, including a large fish, while the beauty at left serves sake. Blossoming cherry trees frame a view of the evening sky beyond the railings. An attractive design, nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading and faint embossing on the white kimono trim.

Artist - Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 14" x 21 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Thinning at edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
