Onoe Kikugoro V as Oniazami Seikichi, 1872 - Dramatic kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro V as the bandit Oniazami (Demon Thistle) Seikichi, clinging precariously to a stalk of bamboo curving under his weight. He scowls unhappily at his predicament, wearing a checked kimono and a dotted cloth over his head. His full body tattoo is visible on his upper arms and leg, featuring a design of his namesake thistles. The moon hangs in the sky below his back, with a building in dark silhouette at left. A fantastic image with a bold and creative composition, nicely detailed with bokashi shading in the sky.
