Comments - Fantastic depiction of one of Sato Masakiyo's tiger hunts in Korea. Masakiyo (the real-life Kato Kiyomasa) was one of the three senior commanders during the Seven-Year War with Korea, and had the opportunity to hunt the beasts while there. Here, he stands on a rocky outcropping in the middle of a river as two ferocious tigers snarl at him as they wade through the water, the shaded currents giving the water an almost solid appearance. At right, Masakiyo's retainers are gathered and ready with weapons. At upper left, other samurai face two other menacing tigers, fending them off with spears. Wonderful detail in this dramatic subject.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Thinning and small losses at edges, a few wormholes. Creasing, toning, slight soiling and rubbing, edges uneven. Please see photos for details.
