Samurai on Horseback

Series; Twelve Kabuki Plays, 1952

From the Uchida Publisher Archives - We were fortunate to purchase a wonderful collection of 20th century prints directly from the archives of the Uchida Art Company of Kyoto. The classic 20th century prints offered in our auction from this collection are all first edition prints of various designs released by the Uchida company in the mid-20th century. These first edition prints are unusual to come by in a nice group as they were generally sold off as they were produced. This excellent collection was held back and recently sold from the Uchida archives. These prints are a nice opportunity to collect a lovely 20th century print, or perfect as reasonably priced gifts. Don't miss out on these prints, once they sell out, we won't have them again!

Samurai on Horseback - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "A Paulownia Leaf" (Kiri Hitoha). Two samurai on horseback pause for a moment during their travels, the younger man looking behind him cautiously. A full moon glows softly overhead in the pale sky, and a willow tree frames the scene at left. The horses are clearly portrayed by two actors each, as evidenced by the unusually long legs and feet, an intriguing detail. Beautiful soft shading and attractive color in this interesting modern design.

Artist - Sadanobu III (1881 - 1963)

Image Size - 10" x 11" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A couple tiny spots, a couple light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
