Visitor Arriving at the Villa of a Wealthy Family, 1889

Comments - Charming design of a beauty arriving at the villa of a wealthy family. At right, a young child reaches excitedly for the visitor as she stands on a stepping stone in the garden. She holds her hands out in welcome as she waits under a blossoming cherry tree while the mother holds the wriggling child. A blue and white ceramic bowl on a low red lacquer stands holds an arrangement of blossoming magnolia branches, and a window with a bamboo grid overlooks the garden. Beautiful detail and color in the elegant clothing and setting, both inside and out.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)
