Original Kunichika (1847 - 1915) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Sadanji and Iwai Hanshiro, 1880

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Ichikawa Sadanji as a man gripping his sword and Iwai Hanshiro as a beauty. She smiles up at him as she adjusts a towel draped over her shoulder. He grimaces angrily as he leans forward aggressively, the sleeves of his blue tie-dyed kimono tie back with robe. His hair is rather sloppily arranged in a topknot at the side of his head, a few loose wisps of hair framing his face. The colorful figures are nicely set off by a deep red background. An interesting design that is backed with another print.

Artist - Kunichika (1847 - 1915)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 9 1/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Mounted to paper and backed with another woodblock print. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
