A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Hiroshige's Aritaya Tokaido - In 1832, Hiroshige traveled with an entourage of the shogun's officials from Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto along the Tokaido road. His journey led him to produce many different series based on this famous route. This charming edition, published by Aritaya between 1843 - 1847, offers another perspective of life along the Tokaido, with small figures of travelers set into handsome landscape views of mountains, water, and countryside. Published in the horizontal yotsugiri (quarter oban) format, designs from the Aritaya Tokaido are rarely seen. A nice complement to the more well-known Hiroshige Tokaido series. Please note: this appears to be a variant for the station of Shimada featuring Mt. Fuji in the distance.
