Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene from the play "Kiichi Hogen sanryaku no maki" of Nakamura Shikan IV as Miho no Tanikuni shun and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Akushichibei Kagekiyo gathered around a fire on Mt. Maya. Kagekiyo sits on a straw mat at right, holding a mirror in his outstretched hand, looking up at the sky. As the pair sits chatting, a treasure of the Taira Clan suddenly appears out of the sky. Dressed as a pilgrim, Miho grimaces in shock, gritting his teeth and frowning. Kagekiyo wears a patchwork kimono and has a tattered cloth tied over his head, a straw mat tied to his back as a raincoat. Miho wears a gray robe and holds a pipe, his basket hat on the ground nearby and a shakuhachi flute visible at his back. In a moment, the pair will struggle over the treasure, eventually falling down the mountain and re-enacting a famous battle over a helmet between Mio no Ya no Juro Kunitoshi and Taira no Kagekiyo at the Battle of Yashima. A fascinating subject with fantastic detail, including allover cloth embossing in the background.
