Samurai with a Sword on the Steps at Night, 1863

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of a samurai standing on a stone stairway at night, gripping his sword with both hands as he stares ahead. He leans forward with a worried expression, his black kimono tucked up at the waist for easier movement. A blossoming cherry tree frames the scene overhead. A handsome design, nicely composed and detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and embossing on the white loincloth.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 10 1/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold, diagonal fold at top edge. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
