Metal

From an untitled series of the Five Elements, circa 1840s
A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Metal - Lovely design of two women fulling silk, beating the cloth with wooden mallets, a process that entangles the fibers to create a stronger fabric. They kneel on a tatami mat, their sandals kicked off and bare feet curled beneath them. A young girl gestures excitedly as a flock of geese flies overhead, silhouetted against a softly glowing full moon. The inset at upper left features a hilly landscape with a verse above. A charming image with beautiful detail in the kimono fabric and soft shading in the sky.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and small marks, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
