The 47 Ronin, Acts 1 and 2: Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine: The Helmet Inspection and Wakasanosuke’s Mansion: The Pine-cutting Scene - Handsome print featuring Acts 1 and 2 from the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the classic kabuki play based on the true story of the 47 ronin. The top scene shows the Lady Kaoyo at the Imperial Palace, presenting a war helmet for identification in Act 1. Her husband, Lord Hangan, Lord Moronao, and Lord Wakasanosuke are gathered around her, wearing voluminous court robes and tall court caps. Below in Act 2, the loyal servant Honcho cut a pine branch and offers it to Lord Wakasanosuke to show his support for the nobleman's plan to avenge Lord Moronao's offensive advances towards Lady Kaoyo. A great design with lively color and fine detail.
