Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
Courtesan with a Rooster Kimono, 1855

Comments - Lovely portrait of a courtesan strolling through the Yoshiwara at night, smiling as she looks up over her shoulder, her sleeve to her chin. She wears an outer kimono patterned with bamboo beneath a moonlit sky over an olive green kimono trimmed with plaid, and a red under robe. Her obi features a striking design of a rooster perched atop a drum overgrown with ivy. A blossoming cherry tree frames the evening sky behind her. A charming design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and the cherry blossoms.
