Comments - Fantastic triptych of Yoshitsune executing his legendary "eight boat leap" at Dan-no-ura during the Battle of Yashima, crouching at top center as he flies through the air, seemingly weightless. His pursuer reaches after him from the Imperial Barge at right, grasping fruitlessly at the air as the agile warrior glides past the magnificent rooster prow of the ship. At left, the loyal warrior monk Benkei lifts his hand towards Yoshitsune from a Minamoto boat, gripping his sword in his other hand. At bottom center, a samurai plunges headfirst in the frothing waves, which crash against the boats. An incredible image, full of energy and excitement, with amazing detail and lively color. A great early Yoshitoshi depiction of this famous naval battle and an outstanding choice for a samurai enthusiast. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical fold at one edge of each panel. Wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
