View of the Military Honors for the Brave Samurai of the Battle of Sekigahara, 1873 - Terrific triptych depicting samurai receiving military honors for bravery during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, a decisive victory for the Tokugawa Clan which paved the way for the Tokugawa Shogunate. In the center, a warrior who has lost an eye bows with his hands open to receive a shallow dish from the Tokugawa general at right. The commander looks ahead solemnly, wearing a beautiful brocade robe over a fine suit of armor, and a horned battle helmet. Other young men await their turns at left, one man holding his hand to his mouth. A fantastic image with wonderful detail in the large, expressive figures. Beautifully and realistically drawn, with touches of burnishing in the armor and weapons. A great Yoshitoshi design.
