Stories of Wise Women and Faithful Wives - Handsome design from a series illustrating famous women in Japan who were known for their loyalty and wisdom. These celebrated beauties are shown in scenes from daily life, with an inset cartouche filled with text detailing their virtues. From peasants and princesses to courtesans and women warriors, these lovely portraits are beautifully detailed and colored. A terrific Kuniyoshi series that is not often seen.

Uneme - Attractive portrait of the beauty Uneme striking a pose as she dances, stretching her sleeve out with one hand and holding a folding fan in the other. She wears a blue outer kimono patterned with wheels, wisteria blossoms, and hollyhock leaves over a gold print kimono tucked into long red pants, the fabric trailing beneath her feet. At right, a tray holds a stack of graduated sake cups, and a long-handled sake server rests on the floor nearby. The expensive red pigment used on the pants and cups has oxidized to a gray tone. A handsome design from this rarely seen Kuniyoshi beauty series.
