Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of a beauty scrambling backwards in alarm as a samurai approaches with his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to draw his weapon. She grimaces and throws out her hand in self-defense, her eyes wide. Her plum colored kimono is patterned with delicate blue leaves and scrolls. At left, a young samurai eavesdrops outside the doorway, a worried expression on his face. The room is shabby with cracks and holes in the plaster, and a sickle stuck through a sheaf of straw hanging on the wall. The right panel features Kawarazaki Gonjuro as Senzaki Yagoro. An interesting design with expressive figures and a nicely detailed setting.
