Takegawa, Chapter 44: Takegawa Masatada and His Son, 1864 - Dramatic illustration of the evil Takegawa Masatada threatening his son with his sword. He holds the young boy down with one hand, brandishing his weapon in the other. Biting his lower lip he looks to the side with a suspicious glance, his eyes narrowed and brows furrowed. The frightened child struggles, kicking off one of his sandals, which lies on the ground nearby. A snow-covered pine tree frames the night sky as snow falls over the scene. An incredibly expressive portrait, detailed with a spattering of hand-applied gofun (white pigment ) as falling snow. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A powerful scene.
