Negishi by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Negishi

Series; One Hundred Beautiful Women at Famous Places in Edo, 1857

Negishi - Attractive image of a beauty lying in bed, resting on one arm as she looks up, a slender pipe in hand. A heavy plaid robe is pulled over her as a quilt, and a pillow sits atop a black lacquer stand with an ornate tobacco set nearby. Toyokuni III's student Kunihisa designed the inset above, which features a view of Negishi as evening begins to fall, a single bird flying across the sky. A charming design from this rarely seen series, nicely detailed with burnishing on the furry black collar of the robe. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail and good color as shown. Small hole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
