Gathering Shellfish, 1857

Comments - Charming portrait of a beauty gathering shellfish along the shore, looking up with a smile as she waves her long kimono sleeve. She holds a basket of clams, and wears a straw apron over her kimono. Undulating waves roll across the background, with a pine branch framing a view of a flock of plovers taking flight. An attractive subject.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown
