Ide Gakusui - Gakusui studied Japanese-style painting, and lived in China during the 1930s. After World War II ended, he returned to Japan and began designing kacho-e (birds and flowers prints) for Watanabe in the late 1940s. His realistic works are beautifully rendered.

Comments - Charming kacho-e or birds and flowers print of a titmouse perched on the broken branch of a tree covered with Japanese ivy. The bird looks to the side with a keen expression, the white breast feathers nicely detailed with embossing. The leaves of the vine wind about the tree, rendered in rich autumn tones of red yellow and green. A lovely image with soft bokashi shading in the background.
