Red Maple Viewing, 1893

Comments - Attractive triptych of several elegant young ladies enjoying an outing to view the red maple leaves. The beauty at right wears a red kimono patterned with chrysanthemums and waterfalls, her hair adorned with floral ornaments and ribbons. Her companion in the center smiles back at her as she carries at tobacco set. Behind her, a woman and a girl walk across the pond on a wooden bridge, stopping to admire the scenery. At left, a young woman prepares at place for the beauty to sit beneath a tree, placing a cushion atop a bamboo bench. Maple trees frame the view on either side, with more colorful trees dotting the surrounding hills. A charming autumn scene, detailed with embossing on the white kimono trim and burnishing on the black kimono.
