Courtesan Looking over a Railing

Comments - Handsome portrait of a courtesan leaning over a railing, looking down with a slightly worried expression. She holds a pipe case and a tobacco pouch with a fish netsuke dangling from it. She wears a black kimono bordered with a bold butterfly print, her hair adorned with combs and hairpins decorated with miniature gourds. An inset in the form of a pocket mirror at upper left shows a beauty looking up with an angry expression. An attractive design by a rarely seen artist, nicely composed, with embossing on the plaid areas of the kimono.

Artist - Sencho (active 1830 - 1850)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small loss at corner, a couple holes, repaired. Toning, a few creases and small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
