Hiroshige's Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji - In Japan, Mt. Fuji is a sacred place and a symbol of the country itself. Rising majestically near the center of Japan, Fuji dominates the landscape and the Japanese national identity. Hiroshige’s wonderful Fuji views show the mountain in each of the four seasons from a variety of vantage points. Hiroshige utilized a vertical full oban format to create dramatic and breathtaking views of this most revered landmark, often framing the peak From the urban city center of Edo to cherry blossom viewing in a small village to the fantastic crashing wave off Satta, the mountain remains a constant, serene presence from both near and far. Seen less frequently than some of his more well-known series, "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji" ranks as one of Hiroshige's best vertical format series.

The Hoda Coast in Awa Province, 1858 - Wonderful view of the Hoda with heavy surf crashing around the rough shoreline. A few travelers make their way along the rugged cliffs as white-capped waves crash against the shore, and a few sails dot the water in the distance. The white peak of Mt. Fuji rises above low-lying purple clouds on the horizon. A striking composition, beautifully colored and detailed.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Loss at corner, slight separation at end of vertical centerfold, a couple tiny losses at edge, small thinning spot, repaired, repaired. Slight toning., a few spots and marks, slight soiling at edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
