In recognition of the beauty and the historic significance of these works, the Tanseisha Publisher produced a fantastic, dramatic set of large format woodblock prints of masterwork Japanese paintings. The Kano School - Founded by Kano Masanobu (1434 - 1530), the Kano painting style was known for its beautiful nature scenes and images of powerful animals, many painted on gold leaf screens or panels. Popular among members of the elite and government class, these paintings were displayed in the daimyo mansions and shogun palaces of the Muromachi and Tokugawa periods. The famous and highly influential Kano School dominated Japanese painting for more than three centuries. Today, few original Kano painting examples exist. Most are Japanese national treasures and can be found in historical buildings in Japan or in some of Japan's fine museums. These outstanding prints are a wonderful choice to collect or display.
