Dancing Beauty, 1893

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty dancing for a nobleman under a maple tree covered with autumn foliage. She tosses a folding fan in the air with one hand while she holds out another fan towards the nobleman. He looks up at her with a frown, a large red lacquer cup of sake in his hand. At left, a matron frowns disapprovingly as she watches, her hands folded quietly in her lap. An inset framed with lavender clouds shows a man with curly reddish hair shielding his eyes with his hand, looking down with an enraged expression. He wears a thin gold crown with a jewel in front. An intriguing subject, wonderfully detailed.
