Ichikawa Ichizo III as Ichizoji Harima and Nakamura Fukusuke I as Fukuhara Komanojo, 1858

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Komamukai Tanomi no Tsumikomi" featuring Ichikawa Ichizo III as Ichizoji Harima and Nakamura Fukusuke I as Fukuhara Komanojo. The men lean forward as if bowing, the fellow at left sneering as he looks up while his companion frown with worry. Their striped kimono adds a bold graphic element to the composition. Behind them, the towers of a castle nestled among the trees are silhouettes in dark gray against the night sky. A handsome design with fine bokashi shading, and burnishing on the black kimono collars.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 7/8" + margins as shown
