Manners and Customs of Ancient Japan: View of a Garden at Night, 1892

Comments - Lovely nighttime scene of a group of beauties enjoying a cool evening in a beautiful garden. A woman at left carries a round moon lute called a gekkin, and another beauty sits on a bench covered with a Western-style carpet. At right a beauty with freshly washed, loose flowing hair walks beside a young girl carrying an insect cage. A full moon glows in the sky above, and a small stream winds its way through the grounds at left. Lovely color and pattern in the elegant fabrics and blossoming flowers. A classic Chikanobu beauty print, wonderfully detailed and shaded.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical centerfold in center panel. A few small marks, faint ink offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
