Original Nobukazu (1874 - 1944) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Great Battle between Kato Kiyomasa and Niiro Musashi no Kami at the Chiyo River, 1892

Comments - Terrific illustration of Kato Kiyomasa and Niiro Musashi no Kami fighting on horseback at the Chiyo River. The warrior at right grips an iron club above his head with both hands as he turns in the saddle to face his approaching enemy. Leaning forward with an intent expression, the general at left gallops alongside his foe, catching his armor on one of the prongs of his pole arm. A lively scene with wonderful detail in the armor and weapons, and fine shading in the sky and hillside. Includes touches of burnishing.
