Prince Genji and Beauties on a Spring Day

Comments - Attractive scene of Prince Genji a group of beauties enjoying a spring day in the garden of his palace. He holds a folding fan, grinning as he looks over his shoulder at a princess standing beneath a blossoming cherry tree. An attendant kneeling beside her holds a poem slip and a writing set to compose a verse to tie onto a branch. At left, two women play with a white cat as they relax on the steps. Wings of the mansion flank a lake in the background, with a walkway leading out to a small teahouse in the center of the water. Beautiful detail in the elegant fabrics, including embossing on the white kimono trim.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)
