Comments - Dramatic scene of the sailors from the Japanese ship Unyokan attacking Korean forces at Koka Bay. While engaged in nautical surveying, the Koreans shelled the ship, so the Japanese retaliated. In the center, sailors use their guns as clubs to threaten the Koreans, two men clasping their hands together as they plead for mercy while others tumble over the side of cliff into the water below. At left, the Japanese ship fires at the shore, and smoke and flames burst from at building at top center. At right, additional Japanese troops push forward carrying a Japanese flag. A lively, detailed design and a rarely seen Yoshitoshi subject.
