Parody of a Daimyo's Procession along the Bank of the Sumida River for Cherry Blossom Viewing, circa 1820s - Terrific scene of beauties enacting a daimyo's procession along the bank of the Sumida River on an outing to view the blossoming cherry trees. In the center, a princess rides in an elegant enclosed palanquin, an attendant sheltering her with an umbrella. At left, women in the roles of yakko or footmen carry chests over their shoulders and standards. Other women and young girls are included, walking in front of and behind the palanquin, with footmen bringing up the rear. Pleasure boats are moored along the water's edge, with guests enjoying a meal in the boat at lower right. A terrific design with wonderful detail, including embossing in the cherry blossoms.
