A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Meiji Kabuki Book Illustrations - In addition to full color, oban size prints, kabuki woodblocks also appeared in smaller format in magazines and books. These handsome images by Meiji artist Yoshiiku are beautifully composed and drawn, with expressive figures and nice detail. The subdued, almost monochromatic color scheme includes touches of soft peach, blue, green, and brown, in contrast to the typically vibrant colors used in the Meiji era. Several of the actors in the group wear the three concentric rice measure crest of the Ichikawa Danjuro line of actors, or the crossed scroll crest used by the Nakamura Utaemon line. An interesting choice for a kabuki collector.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 7 1/2" x 4 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at one side. Slight toning, soiling, and creasing. Some prints have a few small wormholes; a couple have small stains. Please see photos for details.
