Sino-Japanese War Soldier and Historic Figures

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting a Meiji Imperial Army soldier during the Sino-Japanese War and several historic figures. The soldier strikes a pose in the center, gripping his gun as he looks over his shoulder at a Heian era beauty holding a bow and a quiver of arrows. A samurai in full armor and helmet kneels below, a large club resting against his shoulder. At right, a wild-haired man in Chinese costume rushes ahead with a large rectangular object topped with a demon's head tucked under his arm. Beside him, a man waits next to a palanquin, an angry grimace on his face. Two small insets at top center feature views of castles, with a Japanese flag visible at left outside the gate of a Korean fortress. An unusual and intriguing piece of propaganda, nicely detailed with embossing and on the soldier's white pants and the beauty's white kimono.
