Nobleman and Minamoto Ship, 1879

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a nobleman wearing an impressive olive-green coat patterned with a phoenix with long tail feathers over a white kimono and red under robe. He looks over his shoulder with a frown, his hair pulled back into a topknot tied with purple cord. On the water behind him, an elegant ship bearing the Minamoto paulownia crest can be seen, a red standard fluttering in the wind above. A text panel above takes the form of an open scroll. An attractive, colorful design, beautifully detailed with embossing on the white kimono.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight soiling and curling, a few creases, very slight rubbing at top edge, a few tiny spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
