Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Four Kabuki Scenes

Comments - Interesting woodblock print featuring four kabuki scenes. The image at upper left depicts "ningyoburi," a style of acting imitating the exaggerated motions of puppets. At left an assistant dressed in black with a black veil over his face acts as a puppeteer, giving the illusion of manipulating the performer. Great expressive figures in this handsome design, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Small loss, repaired with backing. Horizontal fold. Slight soiling and curling, a few creases and stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
