Series; Twelve Months of Genji
The Sixth Month (Minakuchi), 1856 - Handsome scene of Prince Genji and a group of assorted characters taking shelter under a tree during a sudden shower. At left, a koi vender kneels beside his wooden bucket full of goldfish, a few swimming inside glass bowls dangling from the handle. Two beauties share an umbrella beside him, while an attendant shields Prince Genji with an umbrella at right, the nobleman fanning himself. The two men look up at the rain with delight, a young page carrying Genji's sword crouching beside them. An intriguing subject with attractive detail and shading.
