Comments - Handsome triptych depicting the Imperial Emperor's carriage leaving the Imperial Palace. The emperor and empress ride in the elegant carriage topped with a golden phoenix as bystanders cheer and wave their hats. Soldiers in fancy dress uniforms trimmed with tassels and fringe ride or walk alongside the horses, with additional wagons and riders proceeding down a curved roadway from across an arched stone bridge, the castle rising high in the distance. Incredible detail in the uniforms and decorative horse equipment. A fascinating Meiji era subject.
