Comments - Charming scene of Prince Genji stopping at the house of a beauty, from the "Asagao" or "Morning Glories" chapter of the beloved "Tale of Genji." The young nobleman stands beside his palanquin at left, watching with a rather disappointed expression as the young woman presents him with a few morning glory blossoms on a fan, rather than asking him in. His retainer crouches outside the gate, happy to receive her gift. Morning glories twine around the garden fence, and colorful pieces of fabric are stretched out to dry on a slanted board. An attractive design.
