A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Fine View from the Top of Mount Atago in Shiba, circa 1840 -1842 - Terrific original Hiroshige scene of visitors enjoying the view from a teahouse atop Mount Atago in Shiba. The teahouse is strung with colorful red lanterns, and the shrine building rises beside it. A beauty holds the hand of her young son as they make their way down the stone stairs under the tall trees. A great Hiroshige design. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
From the Huguette Beres Collection - The reverse of this print features the circular "Beres" seal of the world-renowned Japanese woodblock collector and dealer Huguette Beres, who died in 1999 (see image below). Beres, who founded the Galerie Beres in Paris in 1951, amassed one of the finest private collections of ukiyo-e prints in the world, which was sold at auction by Sotheby's in 2002 and 2003. A great opportunity to purchase a woodblock with a fascinating provenance.
