Abstract, 1958 by Hodaka Yoshida (1926 - 1995)

Original Hodaka Yoshida (1926 - 1995) Japanese Woodblock Print
Abstract, 1958

Hodaka Yoshida - The son of Hiroshi Yoshida and younger brother of Toshi Yoshida, Hodaka was a pioneer in modernist printmaking in Japan. While his early designs are reminiscent of his father's work, he began creating abstract woodblock prints around 1950, and after 1960, started combining traditional woodblocks with other techniques such as lithography, etching, and silkscreen to achieve complex, multi-layered images. He shared his family's passion for travel, and a trip to Mexico in 1955 and exposure to pre-Columbian art inspired many early designs. Hodaka's works are much less commonly seen in the market than those by his father and brother. A great chance to acquire a modern print by this groundbreaking artist.
