Beauty with a Bird Cage, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Charming portrait of a beauty on a verandah kneeling next to an empty bird cage. She looks over her shoulder with a smile as she gestures with one hang, the other resting atop the wooden railing. Three small containers and a bowl rest on a black and red lacquer tray nearby. The verandah overlooks a pond, with a mandarin duck preening on a rock at left, and a green bird is perched on the blossoming plum branch framing the view. An interesting subject, detailed with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Small hole, a few small thinning spots at edge, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, a few small marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
