Miotsukushi, Chapter 14: Gappo Ga Tsuji, 1864 - Terrific scene from the kabuki play "Gappo ga tsuji" of a pilgrim fighting on a giant statue of Emma-o, the Buddhist deity of the underworld. The leering face of the god provides a dramatic backdrop for the struggle. He grips his sword above his head with both hands as he bravely faces the spears thrust at him from below. He wears a white kimono with a bold pattern of black kanji characters over his armor, the sleeves pushed down to the waist. An incredible design with a fantastic composition. A great subject for a samurai enthusiast.
