Series; Modern Parodies of Genji, 1863 - 1864

Agemaki, Chapter 47: Sutewakamaru, 1864 - Intriguing scene of the young temple page Sutewakamaru in the water, clinging to a wooden piling with a large stone tied to his back and a sword wrapped in cloth clenched between his teeth. Romantically pursued by two priests, the youth decides to commit suicide by jumping into Chigogafuchi Pool rather than choose between the priests. Here, he looks up with an angry expression, preparing to slip from the piling and sink to the bottom of the deep pool under the weight of the stone. A handsome design with nice handling of the figure beneath the rushing current of the water.
