Keio Era Suikoden, 1894

Comments - Fantastic kabuki scene of two tattooed firemen battling a blaze. Flames pour from a building at upper right, sending smoke and embers across the sky. The two firemen scowl at each other angrily, the fellow at right holding a bucket of water and a straw mat while his companion carries a bamboo ladder. Each wears a rust colored jacket with white dots, the sleeves tied out of the way with rope. The man at right has an upper body tattoo of cherry blossoms, while his coworker has a dragon tattoo. From left, the actors are Nakamura Shikan as Shinmon Tatsugoro and Onoe Kikugoro as Koganei Kojiro. A great bold design with large figures and a striking setting.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small loss at corner, hole, repaired. Slight soiling at edge. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
