Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Samurai Paying a Visit, 1862

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Nakamura Shikan IV as the wealthy samurai Teranishi Kanshin paying a visit. He stands at right wearing an eerie matching coat and kimono patterned with skulls, ribcages, and grasses. He frowns angrily, his hand atop the hilt of his sword, as he glares at the man kneeling in the center. His companion grimaces with rage, his arms firmly folded across his chest, a white cloth draped over his shoulders. Outside the door, another samurai eavesdrops on their conversation, tilting his head as he listens. Nice expressive figures with a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Diagonal fold at corner. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
