Original Ginko (active 1874 - 1897) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Empress and Ladies-in-waiting, 1879

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Empress attended by her ladies-in-waiting in a palace room overlooking a pond with an island in the center. She sits at right, holding a folding fan and wearing a crown, a young woman kneeling respectfully before her. At left, other beauties carry in a tray of sweets and a bowl on a purple cloth. Red and orange autumn maple leaves frame a view of the garden, with two bridges leading over the water to the island. An interesting design, detailed with embossing and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the white kimono. We've never before offered this subject.

Artist - Ginko (active 1874 - 1897)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
