Nakamura Chikan as Chobei, 1871

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Chikan as Chobei, grimacing angrily as he grips his sword with one hand, the other resting along the back of the blade, the scabbard dangling from a green cord clenched between his teeth. He wears a striking kimono featuring a snarling tiger being attacked with a pole arm, the blade against the animal's chest. A terrific design with an expressive figure and soft bokashi shading in the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning and creasing, a few spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
