Mitsuuji Entertaining Guests on a Verandah, 1857

Comments - Handsome scene Mitsuuji, the Country Genji, entertaining guests on a verandah. He sits on a cushion at right, smiling happily as two beauties perform a dance in the center, gracefully waving their fans. Two women playing the koto and shamisen accompany them. At right, a low lacquer table holds blue and white porcelain dishes of rice cakes and delicacies. The verandah overlooks a pond bordered with blooming irises, and ornate tasseled lanterns hang overhead. Beautiful color and detail in the elegant setting and the sumptuous kimono fabrics, including embossing on the white kimono collars and trim. A lovely triptych that would make an attractive framed presentation.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Tiny loss at edge, a few small holes, repaired. Faint toning, few creases at edges, small rubbed spot. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
