Five Otokodate, 1861

Comments - Terrific five-panel design featuring five otokodate or street knights, dressed in matching robes. Each wears a gray kimono featuring yellow insets near the bottom with a black bamboo pattern over a red under robe, tied with a yellow striped obi. Each is armed with a single sword, and has a shakuhachi flute tucked in the back of his obi that could be used as a weapon if necessary. A bold bright blue and sky blue checked background with different motifs provides a dramatic graphic backdrop for the portraits. A great design we've never before seen.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 45 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Five separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
