Ichimura Kakitsu a Warrior in a Mountain Shark Kimono, 1863

Series; Shiranami Suikoden

Ichimura Kakitsu a Warrior in a Mountain Shark Kimono, 1863 - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichimura Kakitsu in an imagined performance as wild-haired warrior wearing an impressive black kimono patterned with a "mountain shark" (yamazame), which is actually a crocodile, and trimmed with fringe over a suit of armor. He also wears a tiger skin vest, with what looks like the head of a lion attached at the back of the neck. Wonderful detail in this interesting series.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Toning, creasing, slight soiling and offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
